General English, also known as English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS), is a specialised, full-time English program in Australia for international students.
The General English course is aimed at providing core English language skills for all students, enabling them to communicate effectively and confidently with a diverse range of people on a variety of topics encountered every day.
Students must be 18 years and above.
Successful completion of this course may provide students access to vocational courses at Brunswick Institute and Innovative Institute of Australia for further studies and may also assist with gaining employment.

MONDAY
Listening: take notes from a recorded text about different jobs and fill in the blanks.
Speaking: discuss similarities and differences between jobs in other countries.
Reading: working in the outback in Australia; closed reading using new work vocabulary.
Writing: create professional profiles for different professions.
Homework: write your CV.
TUESDAY
Reading: read and answer questions about job advertisements.
Grammar: modal auxiliary verbs.
Listening: listen to a professional talking about their job, and answer the questions
Speaking: fill in the blanks with new work vocabulary; complete a questionnaire about jobs and discuss in pairs.
WEDNESDAY
Reading: read an article about a movie star and discuss in pairs.
Listening: listen to an interview with a band member.
Speaking: act out role plays and interview other students.
Writing: look for a job advertisement in the computer room and write an application letter.
THURSDAY
Speaking: ‘At the doctor’s’, listening comprehension, discuss in pairs; talk about symptoms and illnesses.
Grammar: present perfect and health vocabulary activity.
Writing: write about your experiences in Australia using the present perfect.
Reading: read and discuss a health article in pairs; complete a quiz and discuss; revise health vocabulary.
FRIDAY
Listening: listen to a conversation between a patient and a doctor.
Speaking: ‘At the doctor’s’ role play.
Reading: ‘How to eat less’ reading comprehension, discuss the answers in pairs.
Listening: watch a video of people describing their lifestyles and how they keep fit, and discuss in pairs.
Assessments will incorporate a range of tasks that includes transactional speech through role-plays, listening for details, presenting topics of relevance and creating various formatted text.

Duration
The total duration of this course is 51 weeks including 3 weeks term break.
